Crafting the Final Tunes

By Justin Wheeler

I’m struggling thinking of what to blog about today… simply because there is so much I could write about. First of all, I want to thank my family and my band for jumping in and helping Gi and me settle into our new home. Whether it was painting or moving stuff from the old to the new, they showed up in a big way.

I had a lovely birthday at the zoo the other day. When we got in, we could see at least a hundred school buses. At first I was mortified, but then had a mindset shift. These kids were having the best school day of their lives seeing and learning about our world’s lovely animals. That’s something to celebrate.

What else… Oh yeah, we had a show! We had a blast at Burlington Bar a few weeks ago with Rachel is Kozi, Crow Party, and JFK Healthworld. Our individual vibes complimented and amplified each other through the whole night. A part two may be in the works for later this year…

With all that going on, I really haven’t been able to play as much music as I like. Rehearsals have been put off for a few weeks. Actually we’re getting together tonight to continue writing the last few tunes of our upcoming album.

The vision for some of these final tunes is to have them be meditative and reflective, guiding the listener into the meat of the album and leaving an impression at the end. We envision these songs sung in a garden as a meeting between two beings of different worlds. It’s essential for the album’s narrative that these short songs are crafted well.

That’s what we’re up to tonight and in the coming weeks. We’re excited to get back into the swing of things and do what we love: make music together.
